European guidelines

The European countries have joined forces to develop evidence-based recommendations for mammographic screening.
Last updated:

Based on the latest scientific evidence available, the European Commission Initiative on Breast Cancer (ECIBC) seeks to offer to healthcare providers and women clear and independent guidance on screening and care.

ECIBC has developed evidence-based recommendations and indicators for screening, diagnostics and treatment of breast cancer, on which BreastScreen Norway also bases its activities and quality assurance manual.

The recommendations, the evidence and the assessments that form the basis for the recommendations are described in detail on ECIBC's website.

Several topics are presented, including how mammographic screening should be organised, which age groups should be included, what the recommended screening interval is, how the target group should be informed and more.

Detailed information is available in English from the ECIBC website
