Degree of coverage and completeness

All patients with urethral-, bladder-, ureter-, and renal pelvis cancer in Norway shall be included in the registry. The Cancer Registry's foundational database contains information on 99.6% of all patients diagnosed with urethral-, bladder-, ureter-, and renal pelvis cancer.

The Norwegian Bladder and Urothelial Cancer Registry did not have a separate clinical investigation and treatment report for the reporting year 2023. Work is underway to develop specific clinical reporting forms, which will be implemented for the 2025 cohort. Reports will be submitted via KREMT, and training will be provided both externally and internally on how to complete the forms. Reporting will be monitored continuously, and measures will be taken to ensure it is as comprehensive as possible.

It is not feasible to calculate the coverage rate (for investigation reports) for 2023, as the reports related to the registry will not be in use until 2025.

Data quality

Data quality assurance is performed as an integral part of the coding and registration process. Additionally, the following examples contribute to ensuring data quality in the Cancer Registry:

  • Multiple independent sources report information.
  • Information is submitted at various points during the disease course.
  • The completeness of the quality registry is calculated and assessed through annual coverage analyses.
  • Staff possess unique expertise in coding cancer cases according to the Cancer Registry's own coding manual and international coding systems.
  • IT systems have rules and safeguards against illogical combinations, incorrect information, and more.
  • The quality registry conducts analyses and control runs to identify inconsistencies in the data.
  • Data extractions for researchers allow for the verification of a smaller dataset that can reveal individual errors (e.g., data entry mistakes with hospital codes) or systematic discrepancies due to different interpretations of coding systems and rules.
  • The quality registry performs an annual validity analysis comparing information on radiation therapy and drug treatments recorded in the Cancer Registry against data from the Norwegian Patient Registry.
