The cancer incidence in Norway is stable
In 2017, 33.564 new cancer cases were reported in Norway. That is an increase of 2 persent (735 cases) from the year before. There is no observed increase in the cancer ratio.
18.121 men were diagnosed with cancer in 2017. The most common cancer diagnosis the last five-year-period (2013-1017), for all age-groups were:
- Prostate cancer, 28,4 %
- Lung cancer, 9,3 %
- Colon cancer, 7,9 %
- Cancer in the urinary tract, 6,9 %
- Skin cancer, non-melanoma, 6,0 %
15.443 women were diagnosed with cancer in 2017. These are the most common cancer types:
- Breast cancer, 22,3 %
- Colon cancer, 10,2 %
- Lung cancer, 9,7 %
- Melanoma, 6,1 %
- Skin cancer, non-melanoma, 6,1 %

1 out of 3 get cancer before the age of 75
Cancer is a public health issue. One out of three persons in Norway will develop cancer before the age of 75. The risk is highest of developing one of the following cancer types for men and women respectively:
Men:
1 out of 8 men will develop prostate cancer before age 75
1 out of 25 men will develop lung cancer before age 75
1 out of 32 men will develop colon cancer before age 75
Women:
1 out of 11 will develop breast cancer before age 75
1 out of 28 women will develop lung cancer before age 75
1 out of 36 women will develop colon cancer before age 75
