The Cancer Registry of Norway, has been commissioned to do a study to chart cancer incidence among earlier employees and neighbors of the closed oil refinery at Sola. The results of this investigation will be presented at Quality Sola Airport Hotel on Wednesday 17. June 2009.
The results will be presented for the groups involved in two separate information meetings. After that, a press conference will be held where Tom K. Grimsrud and Anna Skog from the Cancer Registry Institute of Population Based Research will present the results.
The Institute has had assistance from a resource group in carrying out the project; consisting of representatives for A/S Norske Shell, the local government of Sola, union representatives and residents. The group will be present at all the meetings and press conference.
The report will be made public June 17.2009 at 5:15 p.m. A few printed copies will be available at the presentation, and will otherwise be available on the Cancer Registry’s web site.
Schedule for the day
4 p.m. - 5 p.m. Meeting for the former employees of the refinery and their relatives
5 p.m. - 7 p.m. Meeting for the residents in Sola municipality
7 p.m. - 8 p.m. Press conference
The meeting for the residents is an open meeting. A cancer illness is however, a sensitive subject and can put a strain on those stricken. It is therefore important that the residents feel free to ask questions without being quoted in the media. We therefore ask that those from the media respect this and for that reason ask journalists to join the press conference at 7 p.m.
