Giske Ursin is the new Director of the Cancer Registry of Norway. She commences when Frøydis Langmark retires January 4, 2011.

Giske Ursin is 48 years old and is presently employed as Professor and Vice Chair of The Department of Nutrition, Institute of Basic Medical Sciences at the University of Oslo. This is a department consisting of 90 employees and responsible for 100 students participating in nutrition studies. She is also Professor at The University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine. She has been a member of The Norwegian Society of Science and Letters since 2004.

Giske Ursin took her medical degree at the University of Bergen in 1987. She also has a Master of Public Health and a PhD in epidemiology from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Public Health.

She has worked within cancer epidemiology since the early 1980s, and has an extensive scientific production, mainly on breast cancer but has also done research on several other cancer types.
