Einar Birkeland is as a postdoc in the Section for Integrative Cancer Genomics, working in the project “CRCbiome - The microbiome as a colorectal cancer screening biomarker”.
Einar Birkeland employs bioinformatic analyses of DNA sequencing data from gut samples, establishing gut microbiome profiles, with the aim of using these for colorectal cancer screening.
Birkeland is a molecular biologist by training, with an Msc from the University of Bergen completed in 2010.
He completed a PhD in 2018, where he studied the genomic evolution of tumors, and how this relates to therapy resistance in breast cancer and melanoma. He has since worked on analyses of antibody responses in relation to HPV infection and development of cervical cancer.
