Mieke Louwe started her job at the Cancer Registry of Norway in 2023 and is part of the Section for Administration and Research Support. She works as an senior advisor and project coordinator in several occupation and cancer related projects, among others projects related to offshore workers, firefighters, and nickel workers. Her tasks are related to research support, research administration and coordination of several projects from the Research Council of Norway and the Norwegian Cancer Society, in addition to data collection and data management.
Louwe holds a bachelor's and master's degree in biopharmaceutical sciences from Leiden University (The Netherlands). She completed her PhD thesis entitled "Inflammatory mediators in diet-induced cardiac dysfunction" at the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases, Leiden University Medical Centre (The Netherlands). Previously she was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Oslo and at Oslo University Hospital Rikshospitalet, where she studied the role of the innate immune system in the development of stroke and heart dysfunction.
