Kjersti Østby

Kjersti Østby is responsible for the Quality Registry for the National Quality Registry for Breast Cancer and secretary of the registry's reference group, an advisory unit consisting of medical experts on breast cancer.

She is responsible for the annual report for the National Quality Registry for Breast Cancer in close collaboration with representatives from the clinical communities. The quality registries are intended to strengthen the quality of health care for patients with cancer.

The annual report is a useful tool for assessing whether the guidelines are complied with and that patients receive the same health services regardless of where they live. The registries shall also conduct, promote and provide a basis for research to develop new knowledge about the causes, diagnosis and course of cancer, as well as treatment effects.

A health registry is no better than the data submitted from the clinics. Kjersti makes sure to send reminders to the clinics if data is incomplete. She also prepares specifications, clinical notices and pathology reports used by the clinics for data reporting.

Kjersti is responsible for coding, registration and quality assurance in the Breast Registry and assists with registry expertise and disclosure of data to the Cancer Registry's Data Delivery Unit and other interested parties. She also represents the quality register in external contexts.
