Birgit Engesæter is the project manager for the implementation of primary HPV screening.
Primary HPV screening started as a pilot project in three test counties in 2015, and in the autumn of 2017 it was decided that all women in Norway between 34-69 years should be screened with HPV testing as the primary screening method.
Engesæter has a central role in monitoring the implementation in consultation with a professional expert group. An important focus is to maintain good quality in the cervical screening programme during the restructuring phase.
Background
Engesæter holds a master's degree in chemistry with specialization in biotechnology from NTNU.
She took her PhD at the Institute for Cancer Research at the Norwegian Radium Hospital, and has worked as both a postdoc and researcher at the department focusing on the development of resistance in cancer treatment.
