Sample quality

The samples in the Janus Serum Bank are stored at – 25° Celsius, some of them stored for more than 35 years. Knowledge about sample stability and quality is therefore of major importance.

Factors that influence the quality of the samples:

Preanalytical sample handling
-
Blood draw
- Coagulation
- Centrifugation
- Transportation and length of time before freezing

Effect of storage
-
Degradation
- Oxidation
- Sublimation (loss of water)
- Change of matrix

Stability of components
Knowledge of component stability during long-term storage is essential for studies based on biological specimens.

The sample quality has been documented through a number of stability studies.
