The Norwegian Cervical Cancer Screening Programme (NCCSP)

In The Cancer Registry, The Department of Screening-based Research is responsible for running the programme.

In 2007, 261 women were diagnosed with cervical cancer, while about 3000 women were diagnosed with severe cellular changes. Most of the cellular changes in the cervical canal are caused by a Human Papillomavirus (HPV), and is spread through sexual contact.

Resent research work indicates, that women who take Pap tests (cervical smears) regularly, get cervical cancer more seldom.

An invitation to women 25 years of age (pdf download).
